Dear Valued Pet Owner,
Pet Care Associates is now requiring all dogs boarding in our facility to be protected against the newly emerged H3N2 strain of Canine Influenza. This strain is currently the most commonly detected strain in Georgia and a vaccine is now available. This vaccine is distinct from the previously available H3N8 influenza strain. Protecting against Canine Influenza requires 2 doses of vaccine administered about 3 weeks apart and boosted annually thereafter. Please be advised that both of the injections should be administered BEFORE bringing your pet in to board.
The veterinarians at Pet Care Associates advise that all dogs considered high risk of contracting the virus be vaccinated as soon as possible. High Risk patients are those that come within ‘coughing distance’ (as far as 20 feet) of other dogs, those that frequent day care/boarding facilities, grooming facilities, dog parks, and other settings where dogs are gathered (especially indoors), even if not required by your boarding or grooming facility.
We understand that changes in the vaccination protocol can be frustrating. Please know that we base our decisions off current recommendations/information as it comes from leading veterinary professionals both nationally and in Georgia. If you have any questions or would like to schedule an appointment to have your pet vaccinated, please call 770-965-3773. We look forward to assisting you.
