Canine Reproduction

At PetCare Animal Hospital, we understand that breeding dogs can be a complex and rewarding process, but it can also be overwhelming. That’s why we are excited to offer a new range of reproductive services for canines to help you every step of the way.

Our new reproductive services include:

  • Pre-Breeding Consultation & Evaluation: Before breeding your dog, it is important to ensure that they are healthy and free of any underlying health issues that could impact the success of the breeding. Our team of experts will conduct a thorough evaluation of your dog and provide recommendations based on their findings.
  • Surgical Semen Implantation: This service involves implanting semen directly into the female’s reproductive tract using a minimally invasive surgical procedure. This technique is especially useful in cases where the male dog has a low sperm count or poor sperm motility.
  • Vaginal Insemination: We offer two types of vaginal insemination – side-by-side collection/AI and fresh, chilled artificial insemination. Both options are available to improve the chances of conception and are suitable for dogs with difficulty mating naturally.
  • Ovulation Timing – Progesterone on Site: Accurate timing of ovulation is crucial for the success of breeding. Our team offers on-site progesterone testing to ensure that breeding is done at the most optimal time for conception.
  • Natural Whelping & Neonatal Care Advice: After successful breeding, we provide advice on natural whelping and neonatal care. This includes advice on caring for newborn puppies, such as nutrition, weight gain monitoring, and other important factors contributing to their health and growth.
  • Pregnancy Diagnosis and Management: Our team can diagnose pregnancy early and monitor the health of the mother throughout the pregnancy. We provide regular check-ups and ensure your dog is comfortable and healthy throughout the process.
  • Cesarean Section (Elective, Scheduled & Emergency during business hours): In some cases, a Cesarean section may be necessary for the health of the mother and the puppies. Our team is equipped to handle Cesarean sections, including elective, scheduled, and emergency procedures during business hours.
  • Pyometra, Metritis & Mastitis Management: These conditions can occur in female dogs after breeding, and our team has experience managing them. We provide treatment and support to help your dog recover quickly.
  • DNA typing for AKC Sampling/Submission: We offer DNA typing for AKC sampling and submission to help ensure the genetic quality of the breeding process.
  • Stud Dog Management & Counseling: We provide counseling and support for stud dog owners to ensure their dogs are healthy and ready for breeding.
  • Semen Collection & Evaluation: Our team can collect and evaluate semen from male dogs to determine the quality and quantity of viable sperm.

At PetCare Animal Hospital, we require that all necessary testing be complete and up to date prior to artificial insemination services for both the dam and the sire. We also recommend that progesterone testing be completed either at the time of ovulation or at the time of the presumed due date to pinpoint an appropriate delivery date. And finally, we request that all medical records and history be sent to our office prior to the week of your appointment, so our doctors have ample time to review them.

We are proud to serve Flowery Branch, Oakwood, Buford, and the surrounding communities with our new reproductive services for canines. If you have any questions or would like to schedule an appointment, please do not hesitate to contact us at 470-310-0112. We look forward to helping you and your furry friends!
